March Madness Mini Golf Fundraiser Helps Play It Safe Ocean City Project 2010!

Ocean City, Md.- Last night the Ocean City Drug Alcohol Abuse Prevention Committee inc. and OLD PRO Indoor/Outdoor Golf at 68th street, hosted their third annual March Madness Mini Golf Tournament to benefit 2010 Play It Safe Ocean City Project. Many teams competed for prizes and bragging rights all to help raise much needed funds for the Play It safe project which provides fun, free events for graduating High School Seniors every June. This years mini golf tournament featured the defending Championship team from Stephen Decatur High School who won the tournament in 2009 and again this year. The Stephen Decatur team of girls successfully defended their title by winning again with 5 hole in ones by one player. Shown below is the winning team from SDHS Madi Mitrecic, Madelyn Beebe, Katelynn Knowles, and Kelly Cosgriff. The second place team was Great Prizes were awarded to many competitors including donated rounds of golf at Light House Sound, Man of War, and Rum Pointe golf courses, all of which were courtesy of Ruark Golf. There were also gift certificates to Outback Steak House, McDonalds, Three Brothers Pizza, and the Sunset Grille. Certificates were also awarded to those who beat the local pro on the course. Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan and Councilman Joseph Mitrecic were also on hand competing for this cause. The Ocean City Drug Alcohol Abuse Prevention Committee inc. would like to thank all of our volunteers and competitors for helping the 2010 Play It Safe Ocean City project. Our annual fundraising event the Italian Feast & Silent Auction was held on Monday October 12th 2009 at  Hall's Family Restaurant to help raise some much needed funds for the 2010 Play It Safe Project. This event raised over 5,000 dollars from auction and dinner sales.  All proceeds benefit the Play It Safe Ocean City 2010 Project.  Please patronage and thank these sponsors for helping us make the Play It Safe 2010 project possible. The OCDAAP Committee Inc. would like to thank in personally all of you for coming out and supporting this project. Without the community support this project would fail!  Honors Play It Safe's Ocean City 20th Anniversary!

Politicians Show Support For Local Program

Councilman Joe Hall, State Delegate Jim Mathias, Chairwomen Donna Greenwood, Congressman Frank Kratovil, Former Mayor Roland "Fish" Powell, O.C. Mayor Rick Meehan in attendance to honor the projects 20th year!

The 20th Anniversary of the Play It Safe Ocean City Project 1989-2009 was honored by attendees yesterday as the community gathered for the Play It Safe Ocean City "Kick Off Breakfast" at  Hall's Family Restaurant. The Ocean City Drug Alcohol Abuse Prevention Committee was formed in 1989 at the request of the Governors office to the O.C. Mayor. Now over 13,000 grads each year travel to Ocean City and have Fun celebrating their graduation without using alcohol or other types of drugs. Over 70,000 booklets are distributed with important information about the dangers involved and making good informed choices. The web site receives over a million hits each year! To honor the project volunteers in attendance were dignitaries: Congressman Frank Kratovil, State Delegate Jim Mathias, Former O.C. Mayor Roland "Fish" Powell, Current O.C. Mayor Rick Meehan  O.C. Council Members Margaret Pillas, Joe Hall, Joe Mitrecic.

OLD PRO Mini GOLF 68th Street & Coastal Highway on March 9th was the scene for the 2nd Annual March Madness Mini Golf Tournament fund raiser to benefit the 2009 Play It Safe Ocean City Project. The tournament featured both overall best round prizes and "Beat The Pro" at hole 15 competition for a certificate. Winners were offered some great prizes provided by McDonald's, The Links at Light House Sound Golf Club, Eagles Landing Golf Course, Rum Pointe Seaside Golf Links, Glen Riddle Golf Club. Each of the 18 holes were sponsored by local businesses, community non-profit organizations, and individuals at a cost of $25.00 per hole. while teams of four paid $60.00 to compete for great prizes.
