Interesting Facts About The Play It Safe Project

Play It Safe 2007 offered free, fun and alcohol-and-drug-free events starting on Friday, June 1, 2007, and the excitement continued through Friday, June 22, 2007. Some points to note about this year’s project are:

 *13,148 participants a new record

 26 States represented + D.C.

 75,000 Passports to Fun were printed and distributed in Ocean City, across the State of Maryland and beyond

 57 FREE planned events, including karaoke, indoor miniature golf, windsurfing, kayaking, midnight bowling, basketball, outdoor miniature golf, volleyball, Slide ‘N Ride, tennis, laser tag, rock climbing and pancake eating contest, weekly access to Health & Racquet Club. All events were held, no closures due to weather!

 300+ businesses, organizations and individuals contributed money and prizes

 Play It Safe student committee, a sub committee of SADD, at Stephen Decatur High School, had 20+ members last school year (2006-2007)

 97 Volunteers giving more than 1,000 hours of service were key to the implementation of Play It Safe 2007
 

Historical Statistical Facts

• *2007 Largest Participation in Play It Safe Ocean City History.(13,143 Participants)

• Previously 2005 (12,492) was largest although 2006 had several rained out events!

• Over 75,000 Passport to fun booklets passed out mostly to Maryland Schools.    (Maryland is the only state funding project as of July 2007)

• Most Grads in 2007 came from Maryland.

• 76 volunteers helped stage the events.

• 22 States and the District of Columbia represented.

• Up from 20 states last year!

• Several foreign countries represented.

• Many FREE planned events, including karaoke, indoor miniature golf, windsurfing, kayaking, midnight bowling, basketball, outdoor miniature golf, volleyball, Slide ‘N Ride, laser tag, rock climbing and pancake eating contest, weekly access to Health & Racquet Club.

• Many events were held, 0 were cancelled due to weather conditions.

• 300+ businesses, organizations and individuals contributed money and prizes.

• Play It Safe student committee at Stephen Decatur High School had 20+ members last school year (2006-2007)

• As of 07/01/2007 www.playitsafeoceancity.com has been visited by more than 44,564  interested persons.

• As of 07/01/2007 www.playitsafeoceancity.com has received over 342,000 hits since May 2007.

• In May and June of 2007 alone www.playitsafeoceancity.com had received as many visits as it received all of last year in 2006.
